The 30-Day GEO Jumpstart is a structured, week-by-week action plan designed for law firms that have just received their first GEO Score and want to start improving their AI visibility immediately. It covers four phases: auditing your current AI presence, building foundational citations and profiles, creating AI-optimized content, and amplifying your signals through reviews and local engagement. Every task is specific, actionable, and designed to produce measurable results within 60-90 days. This is the practical companion to the strategic articles in our blog, less theory, more checklists.
Before You Start: What You Need
Before diving into the checklist, gather these essentials:
- Your GEO Score report. If you haven’t run your first scan yet, get your free GEO Score now. You need a baseline to measure against.
- Your firm’s NAP data. Your official firm name (as registered), primary office address, and main phone number. These must be identical across every listing.
- Login credentials for existing directory profiles. Check whether your firm already has profiles on Avvo, FindLaw, Justia, Martindale-Hubbell, Google Business Profile, and your state bar directory.
- A list of your practice areas and sub-types. Be specific. Not just “personal injury” but “car accidents, truck accidents, slip and fall, medical malpractice, wrongful death.”
- A list of towns you serve. Include your office’s town plus the 5-10 surrounding towns where your clients typically come from.
With these in hand, you are ready to begin.
Week 1: Audit Your AI Presence
The first week is about understanding where you stand. Do not make changes yet, just gather data.
Day 1-2: Review your GEO Score dashboard
Study your GEO Score report in detail. Identify:
- Your overall GEO Score (0-100)
- Which AI platforms mention you (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity)
- Your frequency, prominence, and breadth scores
- Which competitors appear in your market
- Which practice sub-types you score highest and lowest on
Write down the three biggest gaps you see. These will guide your optimization priorities for the rest of the month.
Day 3-4: Test AI platforms yourself
Open ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude. Ask each one: “Who is the best [your practice area] lawyer in [your county/city]?” Try 3-5 variations including your specific practice sub-types and town names. Note which firms appear, in what order, and what language the AI uses to describe them. This hands-on testing gives you intuitive understanding of how AI responds to queries in your market.
Day 5: Audit your existing directory listings
Search for your firm name on each of these platforms and document what you find:
- Google Business Profile,Is it claimed? Complete? Are reviews recent?
- Avvo,Is your profile claimed? Ratings current? Practice areas listed?
- FindLaw,Do you have a directory listing?
- Justia,Is your profile present and complete?
- Martindale-Hubbell / Lawyers.com,Is your rating current?
- Super Lawyers,Do you have a profile?
- State bar directory,Is your listing accurate and complete?
For each listing, note whether the firm name, address, and phone number are consistent. NAP inconsistency is one of the most common (and fixable) issues that hurt AI visibility.
Day 6-7: Audit your website
Review your website through the lens of AI readability:
- Does each practice area have its own dedicated page?
- Do practice area pages include sub-type content, or are they generic?
- Does your website mention specific towns you serve?
- Is your firm name, address, and phone visible on every page?
- Do you have Schema.org structured data (LegalService, Attorney, LocalBusiness)?
- When was your most recent blog post or content update?
Week 2: Build the Foundation
Armed with your audit data, Week 2 focuses on fixing foundational issues that affect all four AI platforms.
Day 8-9: Fix NAP consistency
Go through every directory listing you found in your audit and ensure your firm name, address, and phone number are exactly identical across all of them. This includes:
- Same firm name (e.g., “Smith & Associates, P.C.” everywhere, not “Smith and Associates” on one and “Smith & Assoc.” on another)
- Same address format (consistent suite numbers, abbreviations)
- Same primary phone number
NAP consistency is a foundational signal that affects how confidently AI models identify your firm as a distinct entity.
Day 10-11: Claim and complete missing directory profiles
For any directory where your firm doesn’t have a profile, create one. Prioritize in this order:
- Google Business Profile (highest impact for Gemini)
- Avvo (widely cited by all AI platforms)
- Justia (free, frequently crawled)
- FindLaw (strong authority in legal search)
- Martindale-Hubbell (longstanding legal authority)
- State bar directory (verifiable authority signal)
When completing each profile, list all specific practice sub-types (not just broad categories), add a detailed firm description, and include your service area with specific town names.
Day 12-13: Optimize your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile deserves special attention because it directly influences Gemini recommendations. Ensure:
- All practice areas are listed as services
- Business description mentions your practice area, county, and key towns by name
- Office hours are current
- Photos are recent and professional
- Service areas list every town you serve
- You have posted at least one Google Post in the last 30 days
Day 14: Add structured data to your website
If your website does not already have Schema.org markup, add it. At minimum, implement:
- LegalService schema on your home page and practice area pages
- Attorney (Person) schema on attorney bio pages
- LocalBusiness schema with your address, phone, and service area
- FAQPage schema on any pages with FAQ sections
Structured data gives AI models machine-readable information about your firm. This is particularly impactful for ChatGPT and Perplexity, which parse web pages during search.
Week 3: Create and Optimize Content
Week 3 focuses on creating the content that AI platforms use to match your firm with specific queries.
Day 15-17: Create or update practice sub-type pages
For each practice sub-type you handle, ensure you have a dedicated page on your website with:
- A clear H1 heading that includes the sub-type and your location (e.g., “Truck Accident Lawyers in Nassau County”)
- At least 500 words of substantive, original content
- A FAQ section with 3-5 questions people commonly ask about that case type
- Your firm’s specific experience with that sub-type (years of practice, case volume, notable results)
- FAQPage schema markup for the FAQ section
This is one of the highest-impact content changes for GEO. AI models match the specificity of a user’s query with the specificity of your content.
Day 18-19: Publish case results
Create a case results or verdicts and settlements page organized by practice sub-type. Include:
- Case type (e.g., “Car Accident,Rear-End Collision”)
- Outcome (settlement amount or verdict, anonymized as needed)
- Brief description of the case
- County or town where the case was handled
Case results demonstrate real experience to AI models and create practice-specific content that strengthens your relevance signals.
Day 20-21: Add town-specific content
For your top 3-5 target towns, create town-specific content on your website. This can be:
- A dedicated service area page for each town (“Personal Injury Lawyer in Huntington, NY”)
- Blog posts with a town-specific angle (“What to Know After a Car Accident on Route 110 in Huntington”)
- Community pages highlighting your firm’s connection to the town
Each page should include the town name naturally in headings, body text, and meta descriptions. Reference local courts, roads, or institutions to create genuine local relevance.
Week 4: Amplify and Monitor
The final week focuses on amplifying your signals through reviews and external validation, and setting up ongoing monitoring.
Day 22-24: Launch a review request campaign
Contact recent clients (within the last 12 months) and ask for Google reviews. When making the request:
- Send a direct link to your Google review page (not just your website)
- Encourage them to mention their case type and location naturally: “If you’re comfortable, mentioning the type of case and your town helps others in similar situations find us.”
- Follow up once, politely, with clients who expressed willingness but haven’t posted yet
- Target at least 5-10 new reviews this week
Reviews with practice area and location keywords are among the strongest signals for AI recommendations. Even a few new reviews with specific language can shift your visibility on Gemini and Perplexity.
Day 25-26: Build external signals
Take actions that create external citations and mentions:
- Join your local chamber of commerce (creates a listing with your NAP and practice area)
- Contribute a guest article to a local news site or bar association newsletter
- Update your LinkedIn profile and firm page with current practice areas and recent accomplishments
- Submit a press release for any recent case results, awards, or firm news through a reputable distribution service
Day 27-28: Respond to all existing reviews
Go through your Google, Avvo, and other review profiles and respond to every review you haven’t responded to yet. For positive reviews, thank the client specifically. For negative reviews, respond professionally and constructively. Active review engagement signals attentiveness and professionalism to AI models that analyze review patterns.
Day 29-30: Set up monthly monitoring
Your first 30 days are the beginning, not the end. Set up ongoing monitoring to track your progress:
- Schedule your next GEO scan for 30 days from your first scan (paid plans include automatic monthly scans)
- Set a calendar reminder to review your GEO Score dashboard on the first of each month
- Create a simple spreadsheet to track: overall GEO Score, per-platform scores, and key competitor scores over time
- Plan your content calendar for the next 90 days, publishing at least one new sub-type or town-specific piece per week
What Comes After Day 30
The 30-Day Jumpstart builds the foundation. Here is what to focus on in months two and three:
Month 2: Expand and deepen. Create content for additional practice sub-types and towns. Continue generating reviews. Pursue more directory listings on niche and regional directories. Run your second GEO scan to measure progress and identify new priorities.
Month 3: Refine and compete. Analyze your second scan results. Double down on the platforms and sub-types where you’re gaining traction. Study your competitors’ presence and identify signals they have that you don’t. Consider upgrading to an Intelligence plan for town-level tracking if you haven’t already.
Firms that follow this structured approach typically see their GEO Score increase by 10-25 points within the first 90 days. The firms that see the largest gains are those that execute consistently across all four dimensions: citations, reviews, content, and monitoring. No single action produces dramatic results,it is the cumulative effect of many small, targeted optimizations that moves the needle.
Your GEO Score is not a static number. It is a living metric that reflects your ongoing effort to build an AI-visible legal practice. The firms that treat it as such, measuring monthly, optimizing continuously, and adapting to new data, are the ones that consistently win the AI recommendation war.
